SENTRY Keeps Cool Under Pressure

An innovative solution to the problem of cooling.

Most data centers employ the "freezer box" approach to cooling your company's mission-critical servers. Unfamiliar with the practice? Here's a short definition:

Freezer box cooling [free-zer boks kool-ing] –noun
  1. A common data center strategy for cooling server racks that involves cranking up the room's air conditioning and hoping everything works out.
  2. An outdated practice that fails to properly cool high-density server racks, often resulting in server malfunction.

  3. ex: "The last data center I used had freezer box cooling, and that's how my servers caught on fire!"

Freezer box cooling creates "hot spots" in the data center–areas that are not receiving cold air from the chillers. While the data center temperature gauge may display 72° for the room, there are always servers that are much hotter. Why take the risk that those servers may be yours?

SENTRY employs a truly innovative solution to the problem of cooling high-density racks: InRow cooling by APC®. This strategy involves inserting our variable-speed cooling fans between each rack in the row so that cold air is applied directly to the heat source.

Each rack is carefully monitored by thermal sensors that will trigger the appropriate InRow cooling fan if any temperature increase is detected. Not only does InRow cooling guarantee that every single server in the data center maintains at an appropriate temperature, but it's a more economical approach because SENTRY only cools what needs to be cooled.
